long road

john nikos is a singer/songwriter with roots planted in the midwestern town of saint louis.  he plays songs for his wife and his dog on a brown couch in a light yellow house somewhere in south city.  his songs are reminiscent of his many influences, ranging from paul simon to cat stevens to nick drake, but with a distinct nikos flare.  his songs are thoughtful, truthful, and sincere.  they are songs about love and about life, about beginnings and endings, songs that remind you of someplace you’ve been, someplace you are, and someplace you want to go.

the title of the debut album long road signifies the fact that it has been a long journey bringing john’s music from his living room to yours.   the songs of long road were written over the course of several years, and are sketches that were made along the way.  all the tracks were recorded under the watchful eye of sound engineer/producer/bassist travis king at 12 bar studio in saint louis.  travis himself is an accomplished musician as he is the long time backbeat of the saint louis band folk & bluegrass.  he brings his recording expertise and musical talent to the recordings.  add john frischer of the squares on lead guitar and the percussion of “the big man” ron sikes of gumbohead and you have the piece of art that long road has become.  a collaboration in the truest sense built around the simple songs of john nikos.
